Summer is definetely here

Report Date: July 1, 2008

Lot's of afternoon thunderstorms and lot's of permit on the flats. Somedays more permit than bonefish.

The best plan is to get out as early as possible, fish tarpon until the light is good and then hunt for permit. This is a great time of year to fish for big sharks on the flats. If you have not done this it's a hoot. Also some work on your part is required after you hook one. We have lot's of lemons, black tips, and bulls. I recommend the black tips as they jump really well. Bones continue to show as the water is not too hot yet.

Steve Whelan is rewarded for a great cast

I'll be here until the end of July and then head north to Montauk until late October.
