Mixed bag

Report Date: January 14, 2006

This week saw very diverse conditions for tide and wind so my clients opted to fish both the flats and the deeper water. Diving birds helped locate schools of spanish mackerel and bluefish chasing small bait in 10-15 ft of water just outside Stiltsville providing numerous hook ups. Inside the finger channels was a variety species. Ladyfish, bluefish, blue runners, yellow jacks, jack crevalle, yellowtail, lane, and mutton snapper were all present. Marty Garille of Haines City, Florida got spooled and fought a large jack crevalle for 40 minutes only to have the hook pull out after getting it near the boat twice. Estimated weight 25-30 lbs! Friday saw spring-like conditions with shots at permit and large black tip sharks. Marty Engels capped it of with a nice bonefish. Saturday the cold front arrived with 25-35 knot winds.
